Recently TeamXbox interviewed 3D Realms’ George Broussard about Duke Nukem 3D on XBL. The Interview is as follows

Duke Nukem 3D on Xbox Live Arcade…that’s got to be pretty exciting. After a dozen years, are you expecting that you’re going to get a lot of those who played it to revisit it or more likely introduce him to a new audience…or both? And how do you think Duke holds up over time?

George Broussard: We see a lot of old fans who want to play the game again or on a new platform. I’d like to think that we can attract some new fans as well, even with it being a classic game. I’d hope some new players get the game just to co-op or DukeMatch with their buddies. For a game the scale of an XBLA game, we’re pretty proud of the features we were able to put into it. I think it has a lot of value.

Finally, I’d be remiss if I didn’t ask what everyone wants to know…what’s up with Duke Nukem Forever?

George Broussard: It’s going really well. There are several hours of fairly polished game to play. We’re actively testing parts of the game and getting feedback from play testers and things are coming together. It’s fun, it’s in focus, we know what bits are fun and which are not, and it’s just a matter of time now. I’ve probably never been as happy or excited about the game as I am these days.

Duke Nukem History:

Duke Nukem is an action hero created by computer game developers Todd Replogle, George Broussard, Allen Blum and Scott Miller of 3D Realms/Apogee Software. Duke Nukem made its first appearance in 1991. The game was written by IBM.

The first Duke Nukem game title was changed to Duke Nukum when Apogee learned that this name might have already been trademarked. Later the name was restored to Duke Nukem when they released that the name was not trademarked. Hence, the spelling Duke Nukem was restored for Duke Nukem II and all successive Duke games.

Duke Nukem is a hard core brain fu**ing machine and people just love it. Duke Nukem is forever.

Penny Arcade Adventures Rocks Xbox Live Arcade

According to VGAChartz, Penny Arcade Adventures, first installment in the episodic action-RPG series based on the cult comic broke the record for the highest-grossing  debut, raking in around $ 330,000 (around Rs. 14,14,500)in over three days. The previous holder for a record 3 day opening, Worms HD was beaten by $50,000.

While some might bitch about that fact that the game costs 1600 points (Rs. 1070) a large chunk of Xbox Live users are actually laying down their points for this title.

However the news gets sweeter. Being one of the first games to break the 150mb limit set by Microsoft (now expanded to 350mb) shows that there definitely is a market for developers looking to pack more awesome-sauce into their digital delights.  Along with this, it goes to show that in spite of recent events, the RPG genre isn’t going to hell. Just yet.

Quality or Just Control? Microsoft to delist Xbox Live Arcade Titles

Let’s face it, while Microsoft touts Xbox Live to be the alpha and omega of online console gaming, it’s far from perfect. And the arcade titles are proof to this.  With a glut of less than playable games, it’s about time that Microsoft has decided to trim the fat and enforce some rules to enhance the quality of titles available online.

According to Xbox Live General Manager, Marc Whitten, Xbox Live Arcade games that are at least 6 months old, have a Metacritic score lower than 65%, and have a conversion rate (number of times downloaded) lower than 6% will be removed from Xbox Live. There will be a three-month notice before any titles which meet the above conditions are set course for the great gaming arcade in the sky.

In addition to this, they plan to roll in a digital management fix that would allow you to play your Xbox Live Arcade titles offline (a big plus for 360 owners everywhere) and create a first-party studio to make some quality Xbox Live Arcade games.

While it seems like good new all-round we wonder if we’d be able to download one of those banished games again if needed (which seems quite likely, what with the high failure rate of the console)?
