Xbox 360 finally going Blu

May 6th, 2008

The Xbox 360 bubble has burst and it has finally gone Blu, after months of speculation the Xbox 360 will be adapting to the Blu Ray drive later this year:

“Microsoft chief executive Steve Ballmer had admitted that Microsoft had been working on support for Blu-ray under Windows during this year’s Mix08 conference. Rumors began to swirl and many began to expect Microsoft to announce a Blu-ray peripheral for the Xbox 360. However, Microsoft came out and denied all rumors, stating that they were not exploring any kind of Blu-ray add-on or in talks with Sony about integrating Blu-ray into the Xbox experience. After months of rumors and denials, the Xbox 360 with a Blu-ray disc drive is due to be manufactured soon and shipped in Q3 of 2008. Pegatron Technology, an OEM subsidiary of Asustek Computer, is reported to have received the winning order from Microsoft for a Blu-ray equipped Xbox 360.”

The best of Xbox 360 is on its way……

May 1st, 2008

The Xbox 360 is a must have gaming console, it has sparked some serious competition with Sony’s PS3, and its main weapons, an aresnal of games awesome games. check out this review for the best coming out this year….

Here is a sneak peek on the list…..

10) Mercenaries 2: World in Flames

After watching the trailer below, I’m convinced that Michael Bay is involved with this game’s production, and while that might be bad if this were a movie, it can only mean a lot of fun awaits in the Mercenaries sequel. In between blowing up entire cities and hitchhiking helicopters, there looks to be enough varied gameplay to excuse the cheesy characters and dialogue. This game, along with many others on both our lists, seems to show a popular trend that games taking place in exotic settings far from America are in high demand this year.

PC gaming takes another beating……

April 30th, 2008

PC gaming has been down in the dump for a while now, piracy, expensive hardware and many such facotrs have led to a decline in the PC gaming market. The president of Crytek, a compnay built on PC gaming has made a strong statement in an interview with PCPlay, read the interview below:

PC Play: Crysis is out now for quite some time, it received sky-high scores, which could be considered an instant success. How do you and the team feel after you finally launched possibly one of the most anticipated titles of the past year, on any platform?

Cevat Yerli: I feel very proud of the team and they do too, they deserved it. Crysis is a very complete development of what we imagined and that’s the core premise of being proud, it resonated very well critically and we hope it will do commercially too now.

PC Play: How do you estimate the current state of the PC gaming industry? Some say that it’s only a matter of time when it’s going to finally die-off, the others say that “the big one” is only getting its comeback pace.
Considering Crysis is a PC-exclusive title, what do you think of its market reception and its future? Skeptics would say that it’s pretty risky going PC-exclusive with such a high-profile title.

Cevat Yerli: It is certainly. We are suffering currently from the huge piracy that is encompassing Crysis. We seem to lead the charts in piracy by a large margin, a chart leading that is not desirable. I believe that’s the core problem of PC Gaming, piracy. To the degree PC Gamers that pirate games inherently destroy the platform. Similar games on consoles sell factors of 4-5 more. It was a big lesson for us and I believe we wont have PC exclusives as we did with Crysis in future. We are going to support PC, but not exclusive anymore.

This is bad news for PC gaming, but lets hope that things can change int he future and PC gaming can be revived.

GTA 4 takes the world by storm….

April 30th, 2008

Not many games command the same amount of respect that GTA 4 does or sell even half the number of copies but all that for good reason. The game was published and released on 29th April and has received an average review of about 99 0n Metacritic.com, this is no joke, this is by far the best reviewed game in a long long time. here is what IGN.com had to say for GTA 4:

“Criminals are an ugly, cowardly lot more worthy of pity and disdain than admiration. This is what you’ll learn playing through the single-player campaign in Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto IV. The series cheered (and criticized) for glorifying violence has taken an unexpected turn: it’s gone legit. Oh sure, you’ll still blow up cop cars, run down innocent civilians, bang hookers, assist drug dealers and lowlifes and do many, many other bad deeds, but at a cost to main character Niko Bellic’s very soul. GTA IV gives us characters and a world with a level of depth previously unseen in gaming and elevates its story from a mere shoot-em-up to an Oscar-caliber drama. Every facet of Rockstar’s new masterpiece is worthy of applause. Without question, Grand Theft Auto IV is the best game since Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.

You play as Niko Bellic, an Eastern European attempting to escape his past and the horrors of the Bosnian war. He arrives in Liberty City to experience the American dream, only to discover his cousin, Roman, may have fibbed a bit in his tales of success. Starting from nothing, Niko makes a living as a killer and enforcer, a bad-ass foreigner who appears to have no morals. The longer we stay with Niko, the more we see that there is a broken human being inside, one who would give anything to escape the person he once was.

Don’t worry, GTA’s famed over-the-top action and tongue-in-cheek humor are intact, but there is a new level of sophistication in the characters and the game world that raises the story above the norm. As Niko becomes mired in the death throes of American organized crime, he begins to become more self-aware. Niko’s struggles with his ruthless nature never inhibit the gameplay, but instead enhance the emotional gravity of a brilliant storyline. The more absurd the action becomes, the greater we feel the very real pathos of Niko Bellic.

Much of the credit goes to the artists at Rockstar North who created as believable a city as possible. Liberty City is inspired by New York, but not beholden to it. While there are many parallels, Liberty exists in its own universe and rightfully so. Many open-world games have cities that feel as if they existed only from the moment you first turned on your console, but Liberty City looks lived in. It’s an old city and each block has its own vibe and its own history.

Drive around Liberty City and you’ll be able to identify each individual block. Though Liberty is filled with brownstones and a myriad of similar brick buildings, you can tell one from the other, just as you can in New York. Go to an affluent neighborhood and the street is likely to be newly paved, the pedestrians better dressed, the cops more plentiful. But head to Dukes or Bohan and you’ll find streets nearly stripped of asphalt, homeless people wandering about aimlessly and criminals preying on the weak.”

Well here we have it, GTA 4 will sell for about 14 Million units make a gazillion dollars, Yahoo…..

Sony to launch Video Download Service

April 24th, 2008

Sony has received its own share of criticism for their Playstation Store and its download service, first the dated design, then the long load times and then the limited content. well things are shaping up to be okay for the PS3 and its download service. First a new look for the store and now a rumor about Sony offering movies and TV shows on PSN, according to a report on Slashdot:

“One of the service’s greatest obstacles may be Sony’s own culture. Sony Chairman and Chief Executive Howard Stringer has been battling a corporate silo mentality in which divisions within his company work in isolation, undermining new initiatives. The PlayStation group in Foster City, Calif., has been notoriously aloof. Once, a former executive said, it scuttled plans for a movie subscription service for the PlayStation Portable even though Sony Pictures had supported the initiative. What is more, the company, looking to safeguard its film, television and music holdings, has been an aggressive champion of copyright protection, often, critics suggest, at the cost of technological innovation.”

Lets hope that the service can compete against the might Xbox Live and offer some visaul relief to PS3 owners. Do I hear “World Championship Beach Volley Ball”

Burnout Paradise to get Bikes

April 24th, 2008

Burnout Paradise the latest in the long running series is about to get its second update and this one will break quite a few rules. The latest update will feature bikes and night racing, which is quite a change from its previous iterations. As per a report on 1up.com :

“Criterion just revealed that they have another software update in the works — this time codenamed Davis — for Burnout Paradise. This third major upgrade is planned for release on Xbox Live and the Playstation Network this August and will for the first time ever allow Burnout players to ride motorcycles across Paradise City. On top of the new vehicular selection, players will be able to cruise around town at night. As such, this will clear out the traffic from the hustle and bustle of daytime, giving gamers a chance to acclimate themselves with the new set of wheels.”

Honey I am Home* NOT!!!

April 22nd, 2008

I love my PS3 and trust Sony more than my dentist, so this isn’t pissing me off, dont know about the other 10 million PS3 owners, but Sony’s premier social networking service aka Home has been delayed again. here is what the Sony Ceo had to say:

“We understand that we are asking PS3 and prospective PS3 users to wait a bit longer, but we have come to the conclusion that we need more time to refine the service to ensure a more focused gaming entertainment experience than what it is today,” said Kazuo Hirai, President and Group CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment. “Our overarching objective is to provide users with new gaming experiences that are available only on PlayStation Home. Spending more time on the development and on the Closed Beta testing reaffirms our commitment to bringing a quality service, maintaining the PlayStation tradition.”

well lets hope that this little delay gives us better returns and a service that would make all PS3 owners proud. in the meanwhile you can watch a Home video below:

The Wii Virus

April 22nd, 2008

There is a new virus that is doing rounds, its called the Wii. i know that most of you know the Wii to be a simple, white and blue gaming console but it is so much more. According to Mike Capps, President of Epic Games, the Wii is a virus and it is not all the great, the following is a small part of his interview to IGN.com, click here to read the full thing.

IGN: What do you think of the Wii and Nintendo’s…

Capps: Pffffffffft…

IGN: (laughter) I know! I think the same thing! It’s like, “Come on, why are you buying this system?!”

Capps: I know. I’ve got one.

IGN: Everybody does! Bring it out at parties and everyone’s like, “Oh it’s a Wii!”

Capps: Part of it’s being cheap. I think it’s a, I mean, so two things: first of all, great credit to them. The first time I played a videogame with my parents – aging myself a bit – was on Atari 2600. The next time I played a videogame with my parents, 25 years later or whatever, was Wii Tennis. So it’s about bringing people together, families, Thanksgiving, all that. I think it’s kind of like a weird virus because I have not yet found a reason to play with my Wii since then.

IGN: Exactly. For a real gaming experience…

Capps: Right, Zelda I really didn’t enjoy on it. They back-fitted the control scheme on it, it was better on the GameCube. Mario, I wish there had been a button instead of wiggle and all that kind of ****. So I haven’t played anything that I really wished hadn’t been on another platform sadly enough. It’s a virus where you buy it and you play it with your friends and they’re like, “Oh my God that’s so cool, I’m gonna go buy it.” So you stop playing it after two months, but they buy it and they stop playing it after two months but they’ve showed it to someone else who then go out and buy it and so on. Everyone I know bought one and nobody turns it on. Obviously there’s a class of people who really love it and enjoy it and are getting into the games but I’m still waiting for that one game that makes me play it. Who knows, maybe Wii Fit will be it.

Quite an amusing and accurate interview, this is a guy who knows his gaming and isn’t shy to express himself.
